HBCU VOTER INITIATIVE

The 2020 election was the most important election of our lives, but it also offered an opportunity to raise the voice of marginalized communities and build capacity with HBCU student leaders. Unite Inc. in partnership with Opportunity Youth United launched a national HBCU voting initiative to engage 100,000 students across the country. Unite Inc. recruited 35 Student Leadership Fellows to train and develop from 35 HBCUs to become voter registration champions. Student Leadership Fellows receive stipends and voter registration training as they lifted up the importance of voting in the 2020 general election.
The Student Leadership Fellows learned to organize for policy change in their local community around education and social justice issues. Moving forward, Unite Inc. is looking to train the next generation of activists, and it starts with maximizing HBCU voting in the 2020 election.
